I'd be in, but, may I make two suggestions, maybe?

1. Whoever picks the book is responsible for finding a specific working torrent/download/pdf of that book, so that people who might not be able to afford it can still participate.

2. In one of the other book clubs I was in, there was a minimum page number that you had to read to, I think it was either 30 or 50 pages in. Granted, we're not giving out free food, so there's no reason to make it required, but maybe a suggested minimum, so that if people don't end up with time to read the whole book, they can still totally show up, maybe with a "read to this number" subthread?

Those are just my suggestions, though, we don't have to do either of them. ^^;

Along with your first suggestion - maybe giving ample notice before we actually start the book so things like inter-library loans have time to come in?

Yeah, that could work too? Like, maybe posting what book we're going to read two sections ahead, so while you're reading book B you know what book C is and can look for it?

Or like, if we're discussing the book, say two weeks apart, this kind of pattern:

week one: title of book

week two: title of next book

week three: discuss book one

week four: title of third book

week five: discuss book two?

or something similar?

I think I'm gonna let it alone for tonight, but I think I'm going to put up an "Ideas and suggestion" thread tomorrow. I would very much like it if you'd keep an eye out for that, you seem to know what's up with book clubs.

I would expand the time frame a bit, but I'm on board with this general model.

A solid idea, but I think people might respond more to this if we kept it more flexible, having a checklist of members might put some people off. People probably won't want to give that kind of commitment. But anyway this is really more of a "Feeling things out" thread, I'm going to be trying to build an actual plan / work out guidelines / etc for this stuff tomorrow.

I hope you do it - i'd love to find some new books/authors. I have my favorites, but some of them don't publish anymore, or only publish once a year.
