What, seriously? All the people I know that watch it love it, and all the critics' reviews praise it.

That was also my general impression? Wow, the things I don't know...

Nah, most people haven't seen it. Out of the people who've seen it, I think there's like a 90% "oh god it's the best thing ever" rate, a 8% "it's way too gory/otherwise scary for me" rate, and a 2% "I do not like it for other reasons" rate.

Not even close. Around 7 million people watched the first 3 episodes live in the US and that number went steadily down as the show progressed, plateauing at around 3 million.
