Aww, that doesn't seem quite fair.

I've called myself a dog person, but cats are awesome and adorable. That said, I have more experience with dogs and as such are more familiar and comfortable with them, so...hence dog person.

Maybe other people use the phrase in a different way, but I've never thought of it as anything indicating negativity towards cats. Some people are going to prefer one or the other, it doesn't mean they have to hate either though.

I am on the other side of the coin to you - I am cat person because I have more experience with cats and prefer them a bit more, but I don't mind dogs and think they can be fun and cute.

Being a "Cat Person" or a "Dog Person" does not mean you hate the other type of pet.

Exactly, just because you prefer one type of animal to another doesn't automatically mean you hate the other type. I don't even get why 'cat vs dog' is such a big thing.

I have trouble even understanding the trope of cats and dogs being enemies exists. Dogs will bark at strange animals, no matter what species. Cats will hiss and puff up at having threatening noises directed at them, no matter what the noise comes from. Give them time to get used to each other though and they can be great buddies.

Maybe it's because cats and dogs are two of the most popular domesticated animals and so many people don't see them interact with other types of critters often, or even think about what their response to those animals would be? I'm not sure though.

Yeah, it's stupid and it seems like an idea based on dog and cat lovers who don't like the other type.
