How long did it take (I saw you did the work yourselves)? How much did it cost?

We started Friday morning and finished up Monday night, which was longer than we thought it would take. But when we pulled up the carpet in the living room, we found a ton of dust and dirt, and that the carpet padding had dry rotted and fused to the subfloor in places. It took an extra day and a half to scrape the padding off and shopvac all the nastiness.

The floor was $1.89 a sq foot, and we laid down a thin layer of plywood over our subfloor to give us a clean surface to install on. Total price for flooring, plywood, wood putty and incidentals was about $800.

It is pretty awesome. I love having the freedom to do what I want in the house. It's a lot of work, but it's so worth it to be able to do things the way you want.
