That isn't really a fair assumption, though. It's completely possible to be both a dog person and a cat person, and I'm proof of that. I love and spoil my dogs and cats equally, and I lose just as many IQ points while interacting with dogs as I do with kitties. It's either "AAAWOOOOOSAGOODBOY'DEN! IS IT YOU? IS IT YOOOOOUUUU? OH NO, NOT THE KISSES!" or "YOU'RE A KITTY! HI, KITTY! DOES OOO WANTS A SKRITCHY? ARE YOU THE PRETTIEST KITTIEST?"
