In terms of art, I really like this person's interpretation of Sauron: http://gerwell.deviantart.com/art/Silmarillion-compilation-2-349528509?ga_submit=10%3A1358694906. They managed a character with beauty and power without having to sacrifice either. And I actually really like Phobs' version as well, but I don't love all the samey stuff that followed all because everyone else wanted to do it that way. The 'mairon' tag frustrates me a lot since I'm always looking for stuff like the first example and finding more of the latter kind.

Ooh, I'd seen a little of that person's Sauron art, but not all of it. You're right, that's fantastic.

I think I looked at the 'mairon' tag once and resolved never to go there again.
