Lynn Flewelling is good about female characterization but I can't read her Nightrunner series without getting riled up and pissed off.

No, because I really hate Alec and Seregil's relationship. I would've liked to see Alec grow on his own without Seregil. I don't like romantic mentor/trainee relationships so I would've liked to see Alec with a different guy.
