Yeah, if the OP doesn't like romance, that could be a problem, though I personally felt like the romances were handled well in what DWJ books I've read.

She does seem to have some element of romance in most of her books, but it's less front-and-center in some... most of the Chrestomanci books don't have a ton of romance, and I'd especially recommend Witch Week for those seeking great female characters. A Tale of Time City and Dogsbody didn't particularly either - well, aside from a couple relationships that are open to interpretation, I guess.

But I suppose most of my favorites of hers do involve some romance - Hexwood, Fire and Hemlock, Deep Secret... but if you're not turned off by that aspect, the women in those books are amazing.
