That example doesn't show me that Pamela is "shrill" or "overly sexualized". It shows that Patrick is a douchebag. Like really, she's hysterical, what with not wanting to be burned alive and all.

Yeah, this. I don't know what the full context is, admittedly, but using Pamela here as an example of "too shrill" strikes me as dismissive to the point of being sexist.

Yeah, this. I found Patrick to be the only irritating one in that scene.

Really? She seemed like a hysterical idiot. His house is a smoking ruin and maybe he brought in on himself, who knows (since we barely have a page to go on) and she's screeching 'don't touch me!!' and running away.

Even if you felt your life was in danger, that kind of reaction from *anybody* would make me instantly dismiss you as a jerk.

I don't read it as over-sexualized, but shrill and melodramatic, definitely.

"We're through, Patrick! I can't take any more... I just can't!"

Good god that's some crappy soap opera dialogue. I can picture the scene where she's facing away from him toward the camera and the house is smoking in the background, soft lens lighting and big hair...

That's not a problem with the character, that's a problem with the dialogue. What would you expect from someone who'd been nearly burned alive, a well-thought out speech on how their relationship just isn't working?
