I understand exactly what you mean. My tolerance for that sort of nonsense in fiction has decreased to the point where I basically can't read contemporary mainstream literature at all. I don't like to make generalizations, but I feel pretty comfortable saying it's all shit. So yeah, I'm going to stick to genre fiction and the classics.

You know the current state of literature is fucked up when it's easier to find likeable female characters in novels written a century ago than ones written a year ago.
