(Anonymous) 2014-04-06 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)For instance, the female lead Romy is incredibly vain and loves that men are attracted to her, so it's to be expected that she thinks about how beautiful and fuckable she is. And the male lead is supposed to fall in love with her, so it makes sense that he thinks about how beautiful and fuckable she is. But once the villain started thinking about how beautiful and fuckable she was, I realized that her fuckability was being really emphasized despite not mattering to the plot, and I started to think the author was just really horny.
(Also, I'm not entirely comfortable with how the book parallels genetically engineered chimps with African-American slaves, but that's another topic.)
