You're also aware that there's a lot of contemporary original fiction available for free on the internet? Not just books out of copyright, like Gutenberg, or fanfic, but authors who put their e-books online for free?

Aparently on amazon there's a whole section of free e-books (short stories to full novels). I don't use it myself (too many technical issues each time, complete headache) but I'm reliably told that's the case.

Personally, I get my free novels/short stories mostly from the writers' own blogs or sites. It's really quite common, especially for new writers. Or more established writers may offer their back catalogue this way.

Are these comparisons perhaps closer?
