But quite a few fanficcers are also professional published writers, who do fanfic on the side.

Are those the ones who are whining that they can't sell their fic?

I would think the published writers would enjoy the break of fanfic, of not needing to go through all the hassle to make it sale-worthy and just to make it for fun.

Most professional writers I know stopped writing fanfic for legal reasons once they got published. It's dangerous for them from a legal standpoint to be writing fic.
