There are no hedgehogs in that picture. NOTHING THERE LOOKS LIKE A HEDGEHOG.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
There are actually only two hedgehogs present in that picture. the real game is trying to figure out which two those are.

If you think that's something, the red guy with the big-ass fists -Knuckles- is supposed to be an echidna.

(aka, welcome to Sonic the Hedgehog character design sense!)

He's supposed to be an echidna?? but he looks no different from the hedgehog designs

(shut up, spell checker, echidna is totally a word omg)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
If only you'd told Sega that back in the early '90s.

Play Sonic 1 and Sonic CD. You're done. That's all you need. Bam.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
C'mon, Sonic Adventure and its sequel are fun too.

I wouldn't know, I always pissed my pants and forgot where I was when I tried to play them and the Dreamcast was an awful system anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I am so confused by this comment. Well, except for the Dreamcast part.

I'm saying I hated them.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

That's an odd way of saying it, isn't it? Or is there some meme I missed?

It's kinda sorta obliquely referencing Christmas Vacation.

I kinda get it but don't get it, but it's funny all the same.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I actually started with Sonic Advance 3. Good platformer, albeit minimal in the story department--I didn't realize how detailed the setting was until I saw folks talking about the different comics continuities.

The comics are a completely different thing from the games, tbh

Avoid deviantart.

I'm part of the Sonic fandom, but I'm not IN the fandom, per say. I grew up with Dreamcast-era Sonic (when they started the whole "Modern Sonic" thing) and used to hang out at just one place with another fan my age (12-ish) and we RP'd and stuff, but that was about it. I don't go there anymore since it was ages ago, but I'll still play some of the better games and I'll watch LPs and stuff.

You have to look hard to find what you're looking for, OP. The Sonic fandom is pretty infamous on the internet for being kind of crazy, like you said, so finding a good fandom spot might be tricky. I'd suggest giving some of the games a try (a few from each "era" to see which style you like), maybe reading one of the Archie comics, or watching one of the cartoon series. A new one is starting up this year (it might already have, idk), so that would be fresh ground for everyone else too. There are good Sonic fans out there, OP. I hope you can find some of them.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Run. Run far, far away.

(aka, the Sonic fandom is the nastiest one I've ever been in. and doesn't even have much quality fic to make up for it.)

OP's gotta go fast.

Well to be fair one can say the same about every fandom. Harry Potter, Sherlock, Supernatural, My Little Pony, Teen Wolf, Doctor Who...the all have their fair share of Harley Quinn Asscrack insane fans.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-08 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Every fandom has its bad eggs, and they tend to stink things up for everybody else no matter where you go, so...
