why

Why do anime fandoms have such shitty fanfic?

I just want to read about my favourite characters being awesome without any excessive OOCness or soap opera-esque melodrama. Is that really too much to ask?

because their fanbase is generally younger and thus less experimented and fandom-savvy than the other fandoms'? idk, that's all i've got

Cause it's a visual medium and more people go for making art.

Also as a whole, it's more guy-dominated, so fanfic isn't as popular.

idk the one anime fandom I've gone out of my way to look for fic for on repeated occasions (YGO DM) actually has some great fic out there. I do suspect it varies a lot from fandom to fandom.

Sizes vary a lot (Think obscure 80s OVAs to long-running or super popular juggernauts like Naruto or Sailor Moon). But most of the fandoms are pretty small, so good fic would be hard to come by for those.)

Good point about small fandoms. It would be very difficult then. But that would also go for pretty much any small fandom, I think...

Smaller fandoms, younger fans, and the source material is often over the top and melodramatic.

Which fandoms are you interested in?

My guess is younger audiences.

Maybe you just click on crappy stuff and then assume whatever corner of the fandom you're scrabbling around in is the whole fandom?

I've read some wonderfully IC, well-written fanfics in my anime fandoms. Complains like yours are baffling to me.

I'm kind of shocked that you think non-anime fandoms aren't full of shitty fanfics. Most fanfic is shitty no matter what type of series it is.

Yes, it really is too much to ask.
