8. Yeah, you and most other people. How is this a secret for you?

13. Fuck off. If your favourite game was brutally raped in the ass artistically, intellectually, and fandom-ly, you'd be pissed as hell too. From a more objective standpoint, I don't see how anyone could side with people who have no interest in playing the game and only care about "aesthetics" versus people who are upset that their shit is ruined.

I've only seen like, two people EVER get dicky because someone that played the original game came into fandom recently. The general criterion is simply, "Have you played the original game?" No one gives a fuck otherwise, sry2say.

So again, how the FUCK is thinking that the retarded shit is retarded elitist and whiny?

33. I agree, but only because the joke just isn't goddamn funny anymore.

Well, I ended up revealing my identity by accident earlier, so, no point in remaining anonimous.

Anyway.

The most insulting part of the post was a heat of the momment, angry-rant (misderected as it may have been), so, I apologise.

Next.

Being pissed: fine, really, I don't have an issue with it. However (and this is where I failed in explainig myself secret wise), seeing drama being brought up even when the compilation is as much as mentioned, and people being afraid to confess that they actually liked one of the spin-offs (granted, I've only seen this part once), I'd say that's a bit too much.

Nothing to apologize for; I wasn't personally offended or anything.

Here's the thing you have to understand: This mentality or lack thereof as usually is the case depends highly on where in fandom you are lurking. Around fandomsecrets and its general fandom clientele, you are going to find a massive amount of Compilation hate and disdain when the subject is even mentioned...

But where do you think this hatred stems from?

In fact, it is because the vast majority of the rest of fandom is incredibly fixated on nothing but Compilation (more specifically Advent Children and Crisis Core) to the exclusion of even bothering to play the original game. If you were to venture to ff.net right now and look at all the fic from 2005 onward, probably 80-90% of it would come from authors who haven't played the game.

It's fucking ridiculous is what it is.

[identity profile] rmarques.livejournal.com 2007-11-18 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I see then.

As for venturing to ff.net... Do I have to? D= That place scares me...

*ventures anyway* Ok, are OCs common on the fandom? Because I've seen three Canon characterxOC fics on the first page already (one of them doesn't really tries to hide the self-insertion factor).

And if they are... Screw the drama, if I do stay away from the fandom it'll be because of that! @__@

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-11-18 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
OCs weren't as common before Compilation, at least not for Cloud. The big thing in the old days was to bitch about who Cloud would end up with: Tifa or Aeris. I always thought that was rather obvious for rather obvious reasons 8D

There really isn't as much drama as you think. At least, not in the vein of old fans vs new fans or Comp vs non-Comp. There is, however, a mountain of shitfic not worth wading through. The fandom was never amazing in that regard but FUCK it's gotten so much worse since requiring less effort to join.

If you want fic, get recs. Best way to go.

Also, I wonder, I know you're in the process of playing the game, but have you already seen Compilation stuff yet?

[identity profile] rmarques.livejournal.com 2007-11-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, the fics weren't for Cloud. One of them was for Reno and some other guy, and the other two were for other Turks. (Let me guess, fandom whores right after Cloud and Sephiroth)

Ahh, Aeris being killed. The spoiler that everyone and their mothers has heard already. :P And I hope people didn't bring up Necrophilia on Cloud staying with Aeris drama... Yeah, yeah, it has probably been written already, but still...

Skimmed through Advent Children (Jeebus was that movie boring. The bland VAing didn't help either.), but other than that, no. Not having finished the game, I'll try to stay from it for now, anyway. As fucked up as the canon may have become, I want to at least be able to know just what was fucked up and how fucked up it is now.

And I hope people didn't bring up Necrophilia on Cloud staying with Aeris drama

Yes, it has. Wonderfully mad to boot (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3792449/1/The_Tea_Party).

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-11-18 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I don't blame you. I've given all the Comp installments a chance myself, but none of it was worth a damn thing in the end.
