They're happily ensconced in gaybait land so the slashers will stay tuned, but actually going there? No way.

yes

but not because they are afraid of backlash. i don't think the backlash would even be that bad, but if it would, it's still not the reason they haven't made them gay. they haven't made them gay because that's not the story they want to tell.

in a way, you're just as bad as the people insisting that their relationship is canon - you're insisting that it would inevitably be canon would it not be for the cowardice of the creators. that somehow the gayness of their relationship is so fundamental and inevitable that the only explanation for it not being canon is the fear of a backlash. this is wrong.

How do you get any of that out of what I said above? Tell me.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
yeahhhhhh fair enough i'm making way too many assumptions.

but the thought process is: as i read what you're saying, you're saying that
the reason that they're not gay MUST be that the creators are afraid. and i don't see why that should be the case, unless you think that them being gay would inevitably happen otherwise. so i guess that's where i'm coming from. if that's not the case, why is there so much insistence on the creators being afraid?

DA

Are you serious? S3 was basically every fannit's wet dream. If they continue the trend with S4, no matter what they say now, when it comes to the bottom line, they will do whatever the vocal minority of underaged unintelligent Tumblr users demands, and deny that they're going to do it, all the way up until the point that the resulting awful, unwatchable trainwreck airs.

/anon really didn't like series 3's fanfic special

Everything you wrote here is true and I agree with it.

that's not the story they want to tell

I feel like it shouldn't be the story they want to tell in the sense that its a main plotline. Gay relationship plotlines in shows are always just that; "gay storylines" and I feel like the best way they could handle it would be to not make it a big deal. So I guess what I'm saying is I agree with that statement that it's not the story they want to tell but that doesn't mean it can't become canon.
