I should get a Dumbass Award

(Anonymous) 2014-04-09 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I missed the open enrollment deadline for health insurance. It didn't even cross my mind, and because I've been kind of isolated the past few months, I only had a very vague notion that March 31st was a significant date.

The last time I was unemployed and needed insurance, it was pretty easy to get it. I just went online, found a very basic, semi-crappy plan, and signed up for it. Welp, you can't do that, now! Haaaa!

So uh...I'm kinda screwed. I have a friend who wanted me to run an obstacle race with her, and now I can't because I'm not insured. And I'm like, "are you kidding self? Why are you such a moron?" And then there's this other part of me that's like, "...why was it easier before? Shouldn't it be easier now?"

(Plus, you know...there's a fine in my future. Yay).

What's something that's made you feel like you deserve a Dumbass Award lately?

I missed the enrolment deadline for university courses, and basically fucked up my life.

I'd think one semester off wouldn't destroy you quite so thoroughly

Some scholarships require you go to classes right away and take no breaks. I significantly fucked myself this way.

See if it's a 12 classes per semester deal or a "full time enrollment" deal.

If it's the latter, you may be able to make up the difference by taking 15 or 18 hours next semester and 9 or 6 hours over the summer, bringing you to 24 hours total or 12 per semester, either of which equals "full time enrollment".

....I was very good at scholarships in undergrad.

The same thing. I tried like 5 times on that stupid website and then just gave up. On the last day I tried again, but it couldn't verify my identity and the phones were busy. Sooo... no insurance either.

Did it show you as being "in line," by any chance? If you can show that you tried, then they'll let you enroll now.

Yeah, there's a grace period until the 15th for people who at least started the signup process online or called and left their contact info before the deadline.
