Fic you're too ashamed to write but want anyway

(Anonymous) 2014-04-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A new person has appeared in my RPF fandom of late. He's brand new and I don't know anything about him, and I wouldn't care at all about this except he's very much on tumblr. If I wrote something he would see it, and if he didn't find it himself someone would point it out to him and demand a reaction (ditto if I asked someone else to write fic). This makes me feel SO ashamed just thinking about it! But, my God, he is apparently exactly the type I never knew I had! I am going crazy for lack of fic!

Anyone else feel this way?

I'm in a reality show fandom and the exec producer keeps a tally of how much fic there is and by what ship. He shows it to the people we're writing about and they don't really seem to mind but it's always made me feel weird. I got into the fandom late and already knew about him so I made a sock puppet for that fandom. Maybe you could do that?

That would definitely make me feel weird too. What fandom is that?
I don't exist in my fandom (or any other) at the moment, so to post fic I'd have to create a new account anyway. It's just sheer cringing shame at the very idea of being the first one to write about him! He'd find out so damn quickly.

Whaaaaaaat.

I don't even...

is he trying to encourage them to act more fandom-baity or something? As if fanfic tallies are some kind of new ratings guide?

I want super, super, super angsty, fluffy, sugary, sappy fics of my brotps. But writing that... nnnnnnopey nope :D I do write friendshippy gen, but I feel like there is a border I cannot cross without making myself cringe into a singularity.

I find a lot of enjoyment in interesting plots and worldbuilding, so that's fine, but sometimes I wish there were something incredibly pointless and touchy-feely. And I can sometimes find this stuff for the Holmes franchise, but in smaller fandoms, eh, I'm one of the only people writing anything at all. And if I don't write this type of fic, more likely than not I will never be able to read it.
