THANK you. I thought I was the only person here who really sympathized with OP. I mean, it's more than a bad review, it's really shitty behavior.

That said, OP - I hope you can keep writing and put your fic back up. As someone said, don't let the haters win! So many people apparently appreciate your work, so keep your chin up. and stay away from tumblr

Yeah, I got the feeling from the secret that it was the way things were done rather than a bad review or something like that. I hope OP can get back on the horse but that sort of thing can be a blow.

IMHO, I don't understand why people would do this. I mean, I remember fic MSTing, I remember pits of voles or whatever, but hell, fanfics are stories people write for fun and share with other fans hoping those fans will have fun. It's the ultimate example of "if you can't say something nice." If it is someone trying to be a real writer, heck, real agents/editors/teachers will correct their mistakes or give them hard reality, or even a gentle beta will at some point. There's no reason to rip on it aside from getting the cheap satisfaction tearing down something someone else made to make you feel smug and superior.

MST3K--Mystery Science Theater 3000. In the early aughts, I remember it was a thing to take badfic and write comments in italics as if it were an episode of MST3K. Dunno why. It was like a fic of a fic. Very weird.

You are most welcome! I found it kind of odd how many people in this thread were telling OP they were totes overreacting, given that the secret doesn't give us any examples of how bad it is. Or really specify if it's just one post or an entire blog devoted to it. In which case it could be really, really nasty.

So yeah, even though (full disclosure here) my initial reaction was "jeez OP, it's overdoing it to take down your fics," because I wouldn't do that, upon thinking about it for a second I'm shocked that so many people went ahead and said it. Especially since people can do whatever the hell they want with their own fics. I think most people didn't really think about their response.

Exactly, and there is so much entitlement in this thread. The fic belongs to the author, not the readers. It sucks to have it taken down, but a) if you love it that much, archive it, and b) it's not your to decide whether it is up for public view or not.
