Well, I don't agree with you. I think OP's gotta toughen up, but I don't think s/he's hopeless and should get off the internet forever. In fact, I think spending more time on the internet, in places where s/he could face criticism, would probably be good for her/him.

I think it's a valid option for a person who can't take criticism, that is to get out of some Internet places.

I don't dislike you in any way, but I sure as hell don't agree with you. Just putting it out there. The softest of us should not be forced to toughen up to the level of the hardest.

The hardest of us, those who claim to be made of stern enough stuff to survive hostilities are the people who, if they take any action, they should be taking the initiative to defend the softest.

If you have the ability to take random internet abuse, I believe you shouldn't use that ability to try and "Toughen people up". I'd be happier if people used that ability to lessen to load of those who can not take it, not using your experience and thick skin to make shit harder for them.
