Can I say High School Musical without anyone judging me? They're my comfort songs, and they're all either cheerful and upbeat or sweet without trying to be too deep and meaningful. So, recs?

Doesn't have to be musicals, although I don't mind either way. I don't mind K-Pop, but I do prefer songs I can sing along with. If you think they fit the bill though, do send them my way!

Well, I could be way off the mark, but when you said fun and upbeat I just immediately thought of this song, which really makes me smile. So fwiw you can have a listen!

I don't listen to much stuff in English, actually, and my style tends to be more drama and rock, but there's also Fairytale by Alexander Rybak which... okay, it's a Eurovision winner ._. but it's sweet, imo.

Aww, you're not useless at all, I'm already in love with that first song! I'm listening to the second song right now - it starts with violins, which is always a great start for any song in my book.

Aww, I'm glad c: I mean, I personally am quite fond of LED Apple, but their other songs aren't quite as solidly upbeat as this one.

Searching through my list I found a few more songs which are on the cute end of the spectrum (all Kpop though, forgive me). Bing Bing and HOW COULD I FORGET BALLOONS by DBSK that song is just... takes the cutesy off the charts. tbh idek even if you'd like it (it's extremely fluffy. pun intended) but you should watch the hilarious video.

One of my favourite 'cheer up!' songs is B1A4's 'Beautiful Target'--mostly Korean, but the Engrish parts are SOO FUN and absurd to sing along with. Someone described it as like a Dr. Suess type playing with language, like it makes no sense but it just tickles the ear. And the boys are just so silly and cute and enthusiastic

I don't have any recs for you, but I agree about them being epic comfort songs. My favourite one to belt out while driving is When There Was Me and You. I don't even care how corny it is <3

Arashi. It's J-pop, but they are incredibly upbeat and happy.

Also, the My Little Pony songs always make me smile.
