They are usually strikingly different actually, if the writer's any good at all.

When you have to translate your story from one medium to another, you're forced to think about each word, each sentence, as you transcribe it. And if you have any skill or talent, you'll find better ways to reword sentences that you might not bother flagging if you just had to read it.
