Colton asked to leave too late to change things. Pray tell what scenario do you imagine that lets Allison - who is still in high school - believably leave but keep Chris around for the Kate story?

The option I liked best was having her injured or infected in some way by the oni or the nogitsune that would kill her, then having Noshiko recognize what had happened to her and recommend that she be sent to a very remote area of Japan, in the care of a group of monks who could heal her, even though it would likely take years. And that no one could stay with her because of how closed off their order is, and that it was going to take all Noshiko's powers of persuasion just to get them to accept her. Thus, Allison leaves because she's dying and needs the help rather than just abandoning her friends to go traipsing around Europe or something, and Chris stays in Beacon Hills because she makes him promise to help the pack in her place while she can't.

I've seen a good five or six other scenarios as well that were in-character for Allison but didn't require killing her off. It's possible to do it, if you just put a little effort and imagination into it.

Well OK then. Personally I find "oh btw here are some monks that can take care of evil oni juju" to be far less satisfying and far more lazy than a death in battle.

So she'd get to do a transcontinental trip while injured, presumably by illegal means because if Japanese authorities (or local airports) can't identify her illness/injury, they sure as shit aren't going to let her into/out of the country at all, and she'd be expected to survive all that?
