Height differences in couples?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yay or nay?

Also, who in the relationship do prefer to be taller? Like personality or gender-wise (if it's het)?

I don't really like it aesthetically. I'd rather both partners are near the same height.

I mostly read slash/yaoi, and despite - I admit - I like effeminate, more delicate looking "bottoms" I still don't like height difference. It's not a turn off, per se, it's just not a kink for me at all.

Yay! I don't need a height difference, other things do it for me as well, but I think they're pretty adorable and neat. I do like the aestethic of it.

But honestly, I'm going to ship people because of their chemistry and relationship, not because of their height. When it just so happens those couples have a height difference I dig it.

Agreed. It's not a defining need for me, but I have to admit I like when one person is tall and the other is short (gay or straight relationships, it doesn't matter) because I like the mental aesthetic of cuddling.

Depends on the couple, I've got some ships where I totally dig the height difference but most of the time I don't really care one way or the other.

What I'm not fond of is fandom's habit of drastically altering the height difference in a pair to make one noticeably shorter than the other, I like the heights to remain the same as canon thanks(looking at you Thor/Loki >:|).

I don't care unless the height difference is so pronounced I can't imagine how sex would work (almost never a problem since I have a very vivid imagination).

However irl, very nay. I don't really like my women or men to be much taller or shorter than me. It's just a huge pain in the neck, literally.

I'm an old school Mulder/Scully shipper so I have a soft spot for height differences (taller guy/shorter lady). I saw an anime with a taller girl/shorter guy pairing, which was pretty visually cute. But I also like it when characters are the same height. So I guess it just depends.

Oh my god, how'd you know? Yeah, it was.

I love it. I don't care gender-wise, but I want the more experienced or dominant partner to be bigger/taller.

in fiction I really don't care. irl I'm not a fan of huge differences. I really don't care who's taller, but I'm 5'3", so the chances of finding a guy who are shorter are pretty slim, and for me anyone over 6' is a bit much. 5'6" is about ideal for me I think.

In same-sex couples, I prefer them to be the same height. In het, I don't really have a preference but I do like it if the woman is taller than the man.

I'm not wild about big height differences. Rather traditionally I prefer the male or more masculine (if applicable) partner to be taller but not hugely so. I think that's simply because I prefer my own partner to be both taller and less feminine than me.

I do like height differences but only in slash/gay pairings. It's really freaking cute.

Oh and I guess I forgot to answer the rest of this, pffff. I prefer the taller one to be the more dominant guy. I dunno, I guess I'm old-fashioned.

In fiction, I tend to prefer it when partners in a relationship are similar in height. I don't mind if the guy in a het relationship is slightly taller, but I tend to prefer not having to imagine the girl breaking out a stepladder when they kiss.

IRL, I'm about 5'10"-5'11", so that probably shapes my preferences some; if I held out for anything more than "slightly taller" in a guy, I'd be severely limiting my options.

In het, I like the girls to be the taller one.

IRL? People do what they wanna do. I don't really like to date guys who are hugely taller than me because it's just awkward to get physical with them. Within a few inches of me, taller or shorter.

In fiction? With het I like the woman to be taller because it's just so damn rare (also my mom is taller than my dad so it's always seemed normal to me). In slash, I prefer a minimal height difference (or none) because otherwise so many of the writers in the fandom will go straight to gag-tacular seme/uke/top/bottom tropes that I have no interest in whatsoever. In femmeslash I have no preference.

With same-sex couples, I don't like them, since height differences are commonly used as shorthand for dominance/submission and I hate that stereotype with a passion. But with male/female couples, I don't really care, though I like it when they're the same-height or the woman is taller.

Huh. I like height differences, but I don't choose ships based on that. I don't really have a preference for which partner is taller in het or slash, only that there is a noticeable difference. As for personality, my ships run the gamut, from egotistical short nutjob man/tall shy naive woman to axe crazy short scrawny guy/tallish pudgy neurotic guy to tall muscled stoic warrior woman/slender short regal princess to freakishly tall psychotic murderer/his tiny student who takes no shit to wee anxious sorcerer/even more miniscule sweet whip-smart housekeeper. The only thing they have in common is at least one person per pair or triad/moresome has issues.

I like it. I tend to prefer the more stoic, awkward, not-used-to-relationships character to be the taller one, regardless of gender. Something about a big, strapping dude/lady getting extremely flustered in an intimate moment while their more petite partner looks on in amusement really tickles my fancy. I also like it when the smaller partner is the big spoon when they cuddle :3

Well, in fiction I've always been sort of skeeved by the stereotype of "the taller one must be dominant" regardless of the genders or sexualities involved. to be honest, when I see something reverse the trend, it's just that much hotter to me (man from UNCLE fic with dominant Illya comes to mind!)

IRL my boyfriend is stupidly much taller than me. Which, yeah, it turns me on a bit - he's very impressive. Practically, it's not that much of an issue - I stand on my toes a bit, he bends down a bit, it works. Also, since he's stupidly strong as well, he'll just lift me if need be. And, hey, once you're in bed, everyone's the same height. =p. Though, no, the height difference and strength difference have nothing to do with who leads.
