The difference between strict and oppressive parents is actually why I get so pissed off with whiny teenagers.

I can't take a teenager whining about not being allowed to go to a wild party on the night ahead of an exam seriously when I have friends who are basically not allowed to go out at all because of oppressive and/or conservative families. And I want to smack someone who says their parents telling them off for bad grades is emotionally abusive when I've got friends who still can barely go to school after the emotional abuse they endured from their families. >.
