I completely agree with you. I'm in the same situation as OP except talking about my country of origin can bring on some uncomfortable discussions. Thing is? When the only thing people know about you is your name, and your name is unusual, of course they're gonna ask about it.

If people asking about your name makes you question your identity, you may want to figure out where this insecurity comes from and deal with that...
