because more often than not, I hate the character for the character and not because he/she blocks my pairing.

Amen, sister!

I love spewing violent vitriol at characters I hate (because at least you won't hurt the character's feelings), but it is almost never because of a ship-block. (The only example I can think of where it would be is Mei in Avatar, but it's less because Mei/Zuko blocks my ship--which really wasn't gonna happen anyway--and more because I think Zuko being in a ship with such a two-dimensional character does a disservice to the complex character they've given him. He doesn't need to be in a ship at all! )

But seriously, if you're passionate about a fictional show(definition of fandom), it stands to reason you can be equally passionate about hating a character in it.

People always assume it has to do with a blocked OTP. Honestly.
