Sorry, my experience in Who fandom has been kind of contentious, and it's got me trigger-happy: the capslock was intended in the tradition of SPOILERS headers, not in the rude shouty way.

I mean, I believe all readings of the text are valid etc, I just love the messier ones, personally. But for me, Ten/Rose have an interesting equals buddy-cop sort of dynamic. If you look at the way they're framed onscreen, Ten follows her as much as she follows him; Rose almost always stood right behind Nine, which my brain makes all significant. During S2 I felt like this was a positive development, and then came some unpleasantness, and by the end of S3 I was just generally confused. Intrigued, enthusiastic, and burdened with a permanent compulsion to ruffle David Tennant's hair, but also confused.

Ohhhhhkay, so it was a misunderstanding on my end. I'm used to being capsed at in fandom, so I was a bit thrown off there. ^^;

See, I tend to focus more on the personalities of the characters - action and reaction, mostly. I'd not considered the cinematography aspect of things, but you're right - they are framed differently, and it does make a difference.

As much as I was screaming at the TV at the end of S2, I do believe that ending was better written that that of S1. I'm two episodes away from finishing S3 (I know, way behind the fandom at large, but there's a reason for it), so I can't talk about that yet. As far as the rest of S3 goes, however, I have to say I'm sharing your feelings. I wish they'd let Martha be her own character instead of trying to make her half-Rose at times - they come across as forced OOC moments and drive me right up the wall.

I struggled with Martha until I started vidding her, and now I'm starting to notice how still and self-contained she is when she's not actively mooning over the Doctor. There is a reading of her character out there that you may have seen that explains the OOC as general social awkwardness; she's never really on the same page as everyone else, and she busts out with weird things at weird times, and she would rather not share her feelings except when they get the better of her (as evinced with the mooning over the Doctor) in which case, she's so not used to sharing that they really get the better of her.

As a person sometimes lacking in the social graces, I like this reading, and I hope an awesome Fanon Martha develops out of it. Canon Martha was a struggle, and as a Rose fangirl I feel, y'know, doubly guilty about that.

I loved how complicated Rose and Ten's relationship got towards the end of season 2. I felt that it was pretty deftly handled, and, of course, massively affecting.

Oh man, do I hear that. I feel guilty for hating Martha. I told myself I wouldn't, because I remembered expecting to hate Ten when he replaced Nine, only to find I loved him just as much. So I wanted to give her a fair chance, but the whole "the same as Rose, but more educated and posh, and sans requinted love" thing just drove me up the wall. I also just think the actual chemisty wasn't there.
Personally, I want them to forget Martha and Donna, not because they're not cool, but because it would be so much niftier if the Doctor got some companions who weren't single women from the early 21st century.

Is it weird that I prefer 9/Rose to 10/Rose, just because 9 was protective, possessive, and almost constantly aware of her, while 10 sometimes forgot about her, flirted with other people right in front of her, and actually invited Mickey to come along (not possessive at all!)?
I mean, I think 10/Rose was still amazing, but 9/Rose was a bit darker, and I'll admit, a bit more emotionally unstable because 9 wore his dark side on his sleeve, while 10's only popped up when he got serious. I like it a bit more for its sheer messed up quality.

And stepping back, I can see a bit of a father/daughter relationship thing going on there, but not so much that it qould squick me, like, say, George/Rube in Dead Like Me.
