Nah, that makes sense to me. I like to watch drama from afar, as well. I don't want to be involved in it, or anything, that seems too exhausting, and I don't have the personality for it, but something about seeing it from a distance works for me.

I don't think it's that odd. Most drama just saddens, confuses, or frustrates me, but some of the less serious wank can be sort of entertaining. At least in a 'Oh god, it's so terrible, I can't look away' sense.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the trainwreck effect. We can't help ourselves but watch wank unfold just like we can't help ourselves watching a car crash IRL. Being in a fandom that doesn't have a lot of drama allows us to enjoy what little there is from afar, but not risk ending up becoming collateral damage ourselves.

I love the really ridiculous, epic stuff - the msscribe saga just fascinates me - but in my own fandoms, even if I'm not involved, I just find it frustrating. Mostly because more drama means less people actually having fun in the fandom and making fansworks and such.

+1 This! I love the msscribe debacle. I read the whole jornalfen entry and it was fascinating. I would have hated to have been a part of it, but the blowout was fantastic to look over.

It looks like I've found my entertainment for the evening.

Yes exactly! It's just... wow. I also love the amount of effort that went into cataloging everything into that huge, comprehensive post. Impressive stuff.

Msscribe was amazing. I am still amazed at someone putting in that much work for internet popularity. What did she get in the end? At least Cassie Claire got a book deal out of all her shenanigans.

Same here! I don't actually know what became of her in the end, now that you mention it...

OMG I love msscribe! The stuff with Amy Player/Thanfiction/BoE is really good too, from an entertainment perspective, but it's a lot sadder because a lot of real people got hurt by it.

*Googles*

holy shit

I just spent way too much time on this (like 30-45 min probably) and I can tell it's just the tip of the iceberg. What even.

Yeah, finding deleted threads sucks. If nothing gets deleted, I definitely like coming around afterward and reading it all at once. Because then I can power through it, roll my eyes and mentally mock the people who need mocking. Otherwise, I'm glued to it real time and fighting the urge to reply with, essentially, "quit your whining, you fucking infant. Disagreeing with you does not mean your *~feelings have been invalidated and now you're erased!!*~

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE drama!

It does suck to be dragged into it, though.

It's a fine line.

Well, I love this too, so you're totally not alone, at least :) However, I think part of my fascination with watching other people's drama comes from nostalgia from when I used to get sucked into wank all the time...

Truly ridiculous wank can be entertaining to me sometimes, it entirely depends on what it's about though.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
How is that a secret when a majority of the fandom agrees with you? Juook at this community and fandom anon memes.

Come hang out at fandom_wank. It may be slow and quiet these days, but it's clearly where you belong, and maybe you could inject some life into it by posting some of the juicier drama from your fandoms. Come and be one with the Hive Vagina.

I only get involved in drama when there are foolproof anon options. Otherwise I'm the silent lurker.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I'm too afraid of ruining any reputation I may have by not having the 'right' opinion.

I think I might see fair and cool because I have secret blogs to say how much I hate people.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I looooove viewing fandom drama from afar. As long as I'm not involved, bring on the wank.

I think many people sort of enjoy the drama, as long as they aren't dragged into it.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Or it doesn't push any buttons. I tend to enjoy it more if I'm only peripherally aware of it - like if I know a fair amount of the canon, but I'm not really emotionally invested in it.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been involved in a lot of drama. Some of it can be fun; I remember being super worked up over it and furiously PMing my friends whilst we all wait to see what the people we're having an argument with are going to say, frantically browsing my files for the perfect GIF or photo to show how I feel. But overall, it's really annoying, especially when you know that someone is purposely being a dick, wanting to start a fight.

So yeah, these days, I prefer to watch from the sidelines. LOL
