If they are not bashing them for being Jewish but for other reasons (looks, actions, something they said in 1986), then they are not being treated any differently than 99% of the celebs on ONTD.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true, but it does not resolve the problem, at all. Because whether you think that they're being criticized for being Jewish or not depends on whether you think that criticizing Israel is anti-Semitic. Which is a vicious argument in and of itself, so it's just pretty inflamed all around no matter how you slice it.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not pro-Israel, because the government committ mass human rights violations, not because it's a Jewish state. Criticizing Israel on legitimate grounds does not make someone anti-Semitic, good god.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
it is when you're boycotting israel and not america

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
America is impossible to boycott, but doesn't ONTD bash America as much as they're able to?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i mean in general, not just ontd

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Except during the Olympics.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
tbf, if there's any time for forgetting the crushing burden of history and the fundamental inhumanity and savageness towards the other which has been a constant companion of humankind and cheering mindlessly for some colors on a flag, it's the Olympics

or maybe the World Cup, but those guys are corrupt enough that it's actually getting kind of hard to do that

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say the Olympics are any different. If not corrupt, then incredibly inconvenient and a burden.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
No, the Olympics are pretty corrupt, but those FIFA guys are just on a different level corruption-wise right now. They're barely even pretending that they don't take massive honking bribes.

Has the U.S. started building settlements on the reservations now? Because it really shouldn't do that.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
no, just starting wars in the middle east

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think we are

but the fact that we're not developing the land that we gave to the Indians because it is incredibly shitty and economically inferior, and instead just letting them exist in a shocking state of poverty, is not exactly a defense of America

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, educate yourself. Not all tribes are poor. Some are rolling in cash.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-16 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
So are some Palestinians.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Swimming in aid from the USA when they shouldn't be.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aside from the Native American thing, just making colonies in the Middle East now.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Countries violating one another's sovereignty in the name of security leads to no end of misery, but seeking to replace the civilian population with a different civilian population isn't quite so common. The Native American thing is the comparable one -- a blatant land grab because the grabbers think they have a better right to the land than the people currently living there. The U.S. did it with bonus blatant genocide!

Sometimes I wonder if the U.S. is unwilling to come down hard against settlements because of the entire country being one giant stolen settlement.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, because 'building settlements on reservations' is the only human rights crime you can commt? The United States does have a history of committing human rights crimes (one of the reasons it currently refuses to join the international criminal court, actually).

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it has a history of human rights violations. But the US itself isn't the one criticizing Israel. In fact, the US supports Israel. And generally the people who criticize Israel are happy to criticize the US and any other human rights violators as well. In fact, Israel and the US are similar in the way they describe themselves as being awesome countries for human rights when in fact they are the exact opposite.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
but do they boycott the us and protest against celebrities who perform there?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!
