Why does any mention of anti-Semitism inevitably devolve into Israel wank? Not all anti-Semitism has to do with Israel, for fucks sake.

lol

I think because a lot of the time, folks claim anti-Semitism when someone has been bashed for defending Israel.

In this case, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson have both been bashed for defending Israel. And, well...OP used those two actresses as their examples.

Idk about ScarJo, but Natalie Portman actually has a very strong connection to Israel that goes beyond "this is my ancestral homeland". She speaks Hebrew and has spent an extensive amount of time in the country. She may be wrong (or may not be), but I wouldn't fault her for taking a stance on the political/HR situation.

And it feels like anti-Semitism (and is thus claimed as such) because Jewish children have been taught that Israel is the Jewish homeland specifically, so bashing any political maneuvers also feels like bashing the Jewish right to a country where Judaism is the official/majority religion.

But this does.
