But... you don't NEED to say anything more than "Thanks, glad you liked it." It's basically just acknowledging the fact that someone took the time to sit down and tell you that they liked what you wrote.

Not being good at replying to reviews seems like a ridiculous excuse. Just say "thanks," the same way you would to any other compliment.

See, you make it sound so I easy but it makes me nervous because I feel like if I reply to all my reviews with the same "Thanks" it seems like I'm being insincere, but then I can't think of anything else to say. I'm aware it sounds ridiculous but I can't help it. Some days when I'm feeling confident I can be like "Oh, who cares if it all sounds the same? I am totally replying to all of these!" and some days I feel like a ball of nerves and insecurity who worries that I'll reply wrong.

DA, I feel this way too - when it's my birthday and I get Facebook comments of "Happy Birthday!" I'm always trying to vary my thanks response so people don't think I'm being insincere or whatever. And when I leave happy birthday messages, I try to change them up a bit so it's not just like I'm saying the same thing over and over.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Now I've heard it all. "I'm nervous therefore I'm excused from exercising basic good manners."

No, buddy, you aren't.

oh bullshit, how is this even 'manners'

no one's obligated to write fanfic
no one's obligated to review it
and no one's obligated to respond to reviews

that's how art works, people who want to talk can, and people who want to keep quiet can, and if you're going to get all offended at someone not kissing your ass you're a pretentious dickwad

It's the most basic of manners. Do something (and no, not necessarily anything you have to do), someone compliments you, you say thank you. How is this too hard for you to grasp?

I go through periods where I don't go online for weeks at a time so there are some reviews I haven't replied to because, by the time I get to them, so much time has passed that it's kind of awkward to reply.
