VC Andrews books (the ones actually written by her) will always me my one greatest shame and guilty pleasure. But they really aren't all that shocking or explicit. I was reading one of the FITA books once and someone just came up, looked at the cover, and announced I was reading porn. Lady, you probably don't want to know what constitutes as real porn if /that/ was your definition.

Even at thirteen I never thought Flower in the Attic was shocking or porn. I loved it then and I love it now as what it actually is a psychological horror. I didn't like the whole series as well as that first book. I remember the prequel was interesting to understand why the grandmother was the way she was. But these are not romance, the sex isn't supposed to be a turn on. It is supposed to gross you out.

People were always calling it a romance novel...um no. It is a story about four children locked in an attic and physically, emotionally, and mentally abused. Even being locked in the attic hadn't actually made them sexually attracted to each other; it was after a year of it being told to them that they already were that they were already sinning, when they weren't, that the mental abuse finally began to effect them.
