People hate the Ferengi episodes? My SO and I are watching DS9 (his first time) and we love the Ferengi episodes they are tons of fun.

That is what I have been told, but I don't understand it myself. Every episode can't be a deep, dark punch in the gut that makes you question your ethics and/or your own existence. I guess people didn't think they fit tonally with the rest of the series but...I think they do? You have all of these alien societies and they're all going through huge sociopolitical changes and we basically get to see the Ferengi go through their revolution over the span of seven seasons...so it fits the general theme. It's just also humorous. And I'm rambling quite a lot but yeah, I love them.
