It's more the presumption of it--the idea that you are going to write this very long crit unbidden, and then expect feedback on your feedback. Obviously if you're in a community where that's common it's different, but I don't really see that on say Ao3.

Like I said--too much feedback can be overwhelming. I type up all my comments on term papers (I'm a teaching assistant and this is my job), but I've learned (and been told) that giving THAT much feedback, rather than highlighting just a couple things, is harmful. Now I'm going to assume the person writing 637k stories is pretty damn confident, but a lot of fanfic writers absolutely are not. This can really squash people if, again, it's unbidden.

Then they really shouldn't be posting their fics on the internet. When you post things on a site that allows reviews, you open yourself up to... you got it, reviews. Good, bad, and everything in between.

If they're such a delicate snowflake that getting a lengthy review (which a lot of writers would sacrifice small animals for) makes them panic? They're not ready to be sharing their works with the public.
