Unfortunately this has led to a lot of people trying to "reappraise" it and talk about how it has a lot of hidden qualities and it's actually really good and even though it's unpopular they can still appreciate it, and from all that it has derived a weird popularity with certain people

and no. no, it's just bad.

it's disjointed and outrageous and garish and I love it. Why would people go hunting for hidden meaning when they could just enjoy the bloody fever dream with glorious soliloquies? :/

You could honestly ask that about a lot of literature. People are desperate to find symbolism/hidden meaning. IDGI either.

I like Titus Andronicus for the same reason I like Quentin Tarantino's movies (and presumably the reason I'll like Game of Thrones if I ever get around to it). Every now and then you just want a story that's nothing but a bloodbath. And it is Shakespeare, so there are a few bits that are just really good blank verse.

I think a lot of people are disapointed with or confused by Titus Andronicus because they hear Shakespeare's name and expect something lofty and beautiful and insightful and universally applicable. But it isn't. It's just good bloody entertainment.
