Not sure where you're getting this "in the hands of another author" from. Kate Elliott is generally pretty good with her diverse characters, and she's getting much better. Crown of Stars is an early work; try The Crossroads Trilogy or The Spiritwalker Trilogy. (EVERYBODY's brown!)

Not the OP but, I think they were saying that the story line of the character is compelling enough to be worthy of further exploration.

Based on the secret, it seems as though the character was a foreigner to the kingdom and it would be interesting to see how that effected things.

Could be, but I don't see why they're calling Elliott out, then, for failing to do something another author (any other author?) would have. Not many epic fantasy authors would've given that plotline to a woman of color at all. If OP's got someone (multiple someones, apparently!) in mind who would've given that character an entire series, I'd like to hear their names; I want to read them!

To be honest, I didn't understand the second part of the secret. I mean, she's Elliot's character. It doesn't make sense to suggest that she doesn't write multiple races of characters. I thought it was an attempt to suggest that another author could and should give the character a series.

As to these authors - I'd like to read them, too.

OP here

Yes exactly! I read this serie after Game of Thrones and it made me think that this character was kind of a reverse!Daenerys.
