Chill. I made this thread based on someone's comment in the other thread. The title was supposed to be a joke. We've had "fandom-related secrets that you don't feel like making into a secret" threads before, this isn't any different.

I've come to the conclusion I'm not outgoing or interesting enough to make fandom friends and I'll be a lurker until the day I die.

What are you looking for in a "fandom friend"? Because I remember a different user (or maybe you, IDEK) who wondered if more people here would talk to them if they made an account, and they seemed to end up having more people talk to them here.

Or are you looking for people you can follow and talk about fandom specific things outside of F!S? For that to happen, now that LJ and Dreamwidth are being deserted and just meeting someone here and adding them to your circle/flist isn't terribly useful, I think you pretty much have to come out and say "Hey, we seem to agree on a lot of things. Can I follow you on another platform?" Or, check their profile, see if they're linked up with their twitter, tumblr, whatever, find them there and say "Hey, we talked on F!S. Following you if you don't mind."

Or just start reblogging/retweeting/replying to people you'd like to be friends with while also posting things yourself so that they can get a feel for who you are and if they want to be friends with you.

I'm getting real tired of a certain friend's daily reminders that she hates one of my fandoms. I can't tell her it bothers me because she dresses it all up in "But don't get me wrong, I don't judge you for being in the fandom! Just because it's a piece of shit and I don't personally understand why it appeals to anyone, that doesn't mean you're not free to like it! Don't mind me! Oh, look at this horrible fanart, LMAO. It's funny because the art is horrible and so is the fandom, but I'm not going to say so. That way you can't tell me to stop shitting on your fandom, because I can pretend I'm just mocking the horrible art"

It's driving me insane. I want to scream my head off at her and smack her.

I stopped reading manga/watching anime because I got sick of Japan's interest in underaged girls having children with their teachers/brothers/cousins. It became so frequent that I can no longer enjoy the stuff I used to. I lie and tell fandom friends that it's just because I grew out of the style(s).

This sentiment baffles me. I've never had a problem avoiding anime that does these things. I must be watching all the wrong (or I guess, right?) genres.

I've never SEEN anime that does these things and I've watched probably well over 300 shows by now.

Um, I read a ton of Shoujo, seen a lot of anime in my day and...none of that happens in the stuff that gets over here. even in Cardcaptor Sakura, it was treated as something that can happen in the suture, but it wasn't even that at all. It was toned down more in the anime as a one sided thing.

I met irl fan. It was awkward. We were in a room and there were a lot of other people around, and it did not look like they are fans. I wanted to talk about our fandom but I was scared the others would think we're weird, and there was nothing else to talk about.
