>"my many many grandparents"

...as in more than four? how is that physically possible?

Great-Grandparents and Great Aunts/Uncles tend to kind of blur into just Grandparents, in my experience.

Maybe they meant to include great-aunts and great-uncles?

Divorce/death and remarrying. That's how I managed to get eight grandmothers.

you must have gotten so much werther's original that you had to sell it to other kids at the playground

My daughter has 3 great-grandma's, 2 grandmas, 1 grandpa, and 3 great-grandpas. Plus we have my aunt who she calls "aunt grandma" and my great-great-aunt who my aunt and myself have always called "aunt grandma." It's possible to have a bunch. And you're lucky if they're as awesome as all but one of our is. (My bio grandpa is a real dick.)

I had six - two divorces and remarriages, so technically it was four grandparents and two step-grandparents, but I didn't differentiate.

From what I remember, the grandparents were pretty cool, so no worries. If you enjoy that part the best, then enjoy it.

Dude, what? Everyone adores the grandparents. Just because they aren't the focus of the plot doesn't mean they're less awesome.

Btw, have you read the Great Glass Elevator sequel? They have an expanded role there.

I think his grandparents were intended to be fun and awesome, you are definitely doing this right. Especially his grandpa joe - he was practically the hero!

/ignoring the awfulness of Dahl as a person for just a little while longer.
