I feel you OP, I have meds that kill my sex drive too. It wouldn't bother me that much but some fandom friends tease me for being "vanilla" because I don't care about porn. That bit sucks >:/

That's hella rude. :/

Can we make it a rule that people should just NOT comment on how much sex/how little sex/what kind of sex other people are having?

Can that be a thing?

Because it's so goddamn rude.

I feel this a lot. :/ I still read and write smut but it's more for the emotional angle than anything else these days. I barely remember what smut for smut's sake felt like.

Hey, I've never read smut for the sexy feelings. I'm sorry you can't enjoy like you used to, but obviously it's possible to enjoy the ----

---well actually now that I think about it in most smut fics I kind of skim the smut parts and stick around for the emotional bits.

Nevermind.

Yeah, this. Maybe because I've been in fandoms so long, but "Tab A, Slot B" isn't the part that interests me anymore. Build up? GREAT! After effects? Sure! But I don't need the details of every little fluid splatter.

I'm not interested in NC-17 in my fandoms. I'm horny sometimes, but it's kinda separate from fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-18 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks, OP!

And I funnily have the opposite thoughts. Shipping for smut/porn is boring to me and my interest in it is zero (always). I ship on the character interactions and want the falling in love cute feelings getting together stuff and not sex.

My sex drive dwindled on antidepressants as well, but reading smutty fics has never done anything for me tbh. I still enjoy reading the passages as they're hot, but I don't feel the need to ever take a breather.

Maybe try reading for different fandoms or pairings and try and ramp yourself up before hand? Or do more visualization?

Same OP :(
6 years now...

I love all aspects of shipping (including the porn), but sometimes I just want to read a good get together fic and don't even particularly mind if there isn't any sex involved. It's a great bonus, but I don't think anyone necessarily needs to go there to keep things intriguing.

Sorry about your sex drive, though. :( I hope you get it back one day.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-18 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's weird, I have never really found fanfic smut sexy even though I've been reading fanfic for 10+ years. Lie, I actually enjoy the romance and tension of shipping more than the smut. (But maybe even that isn't enjoyable to you anymore?)

Anyway, I've been on anti-depressants too and they obliterated my sex drive, so I commiserate with you on that part.

I feel you. I don't know if I'm actually asexual because I've been on anti-depressants since I was 12

(Anonymous) 2014-04-18 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Have you talked to your doctor about trying different meds, anon? There are so many different antidepressants out there these days that there's no reason you should be staying on one that causes you side effects you aren't happy with unless it's absolutely the only one that works for you.

There are plenty of them out there that don't dampen your sex drive; I'm on one of them now. It might be worth talking to your doctor about!

Seconded

I've tried literally a handful of antidepressants and anxiety medication, and most of them killed my already fragile sex drive. The Pill didn't help either.
Now I'm on Venlafaxine and I don't think I've ever been so horny. It's a lot of fun even though I have nobody to share it with at the moment. Not to mention that it also helped me to stop hating myself all the time for no good reason.
