No matter how much you like something, it's conversion can make it suck. Your fear is valid.

But you should share what it is. Anybody have ideas? I'm not as /a/ as I used to be.

Best guess is Mekakucity Actors (Vocaloid spin-off thing), seeing as most of the other big things this season are sequels (Jojo and Mushishi) or light novel adaptations that don't have a big English speaking fandom (No Game No Life, maybe).

I honestly thought it was that Ping Pong one. Wiki says it got a LA adaptation but not an anime one.

There's two adaptations: a live-action one from early 2000s and an anime airing now.

But I really doubt it's the Ping Pong anime, because I was not able to find a fandom for it before it aired. And it isn't too popular right now either.

I know about the anime one airing now, which is why I thought it could have been the OP's fandom. I just double-checked Wiki to make sure there hadn't been an animated one prior, since I didn't know the series existed before the buzz.

I don't have plans to watch it, but I didn't realize there was such a lack of fandom. That sucks.
