Re: Have you ever liked a movie/tv show better then the book it's based on?

The movie adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen >>>>>>> the comic.

I'm sure I'll get lots of angry nerds screaming at me for saying that, but IDGAF. The comic had all the things that are terrible about Alan Moore's writing and none of the things that are great about Alan Moore's writing. The movie, on the other hand, was stupid and cheesy and nonsensical and stupid, but in a fun and endearing way, like a dumb 90s action movie. The only real problem I saw with it was the unnecessary inclusion of Tom Sawyer, who was clearly only there because somebody thought American audiences wouldn't want to watch a movie with a cast full of non-Americans.

I actually agree with pretty much all of this. The movie is stupid, truly and genuinely stupid, but it's enjoyably stupid, and has a cast of characters who are mostly not assholes, or at least nowhere near the asshole levels of their comic counterparts (Skinner vs Griffin being the major example). I would watch the movie a thousand times more often than I'd read the comics.

Though, yes, could have done without Sawyer. Though he did have some good moments with Quartermaine and Skinner.

I guess I feel like the comics were at least trying to do something interesting and different, and the movie didn't even try to do that and just went for the dumb 90s action movie (and made a movie that is, even in the best day, not very good).

Also I really liked the visual style of the comics and, again, they didn't attempt to translate that at all.

I actually non-ironically love the LXG movie. It's not perfect but it had so much potential and I thought the casting was great. A lot of the actors had so much chemistry and charm.
