Re: Have you ever liked a movie/tv show better then the book it's based on?

The Devil Wears Prada. I read the book first and hated it, but gave the movie a chance because I like Anne Hathaway. I disliked Andy in the book. She was just very unlikable to me, and I didn't care to read her thoughts/complaints about everything. She was much more likable in the movie, where you could actually see how horrible her boss was.

The Children of Men. It's such an interesting concept, but there's something about PD James's writing that I can't stand. I was too bored. The movie is very different, and I liked the changes.

The weird thing about the movie, though, is that it seems to think you will dislike Andy anyway. It acts like her decisions in life were bad and that she's shallow. There were so many things totally wrong with that movie. Like...

How is it okay for her friends to accept all of the goodies she gets from her work, and then in the same conversation complain that she works too much and is becoming more shallow?

Why is it devilish for Miranda to save her job and career by undercutting her employee? Yes, it was wrong and he should have been warned, but the difference is that he didn't get a promotion, she got to keep her job.

How is being told 'you are the one going to Paris or you're fired' at all in league with that? They act like she betrayed Emma, she didn't. And even so, Emma treated her like garbage. Even when she does kind things for her, she's still surly.

For a young couple starting out, her boyfriend sure is unsympathetic that his girlfriend has to put extra hours in to make her dream job work. Apparently we're supposed to feel bad for the boyfriend because he doesn't get a lot of time with her, but what about Andy? On top of dealing with a ridiculously overbearing boss, she doesn't get to spend a lot of time relaxing with her SO either.

Gah.
