I think it might have to do with what kinds of things you think about and how you apply it. As a science-oriented person, I think of "phase" meaning a period of time in a biological cycle or chemical reaction or something like that haha so it seems totally unrelated.

On the other hand, the one time it does seem to make sense to mix them up, to me, is talking about Pokemon competitive battling. There's a technique called "pseudo-hazing", so-named because the move Haze resets stat changes on the field (or maybe just makes future stat changes impossible, idr which) but you can also reset stat changes by forcing a Pokemon out of battle. So a Pokemon that uses Roar or Whirlwind to counter another Pokemon boosting its stats is said to be "pseudo-hazing", which is sometimes shortened to "phazing", the opponent.

(I have no idea if you're into Pokemon or have ever done any of this, so apologies if you already know all of that haha)
