Huh. I have always referred to it as "Lego sets" or "Lego pieces", probably because I always subconsciously remember that "Lego" is the brand name, while the pieces themselves are just building blocks.

Interesting! That makes sense. In my house growing up we pretty much either ignored brand names altogether or turned them into common nouns. ("kleenexes" sounds perfectly all right to me, too, though people would occasionally point out that, actually, those are "tissues" and Kleenex is the brand name). I probably did hear someone refer to "lego sets" at some point and just forgot. But I can only ever remember people saying "legos" and FS is the first place I've seen anyone try to correct that usage.

(I did used to correct people who referred to my "Barbies," because I thought it was rude of the doll company to impose names on all their dolls. I wanted my dolls to have their own names. That's way off topic, though).
