While I won't deny I am enjoying this little back-and-forth to some extent (fandom_wank is going through a dry spell and I need my fix of pointless, stupid arguments, even if it involves me generating them), I'm mostly just bored and killing time in-between downloading Skyrim mods. I like Idina Menzel well enough, but in truth, I mostly just find you to be a snooty know-it-all who's only interested in telling everyone about your undoubtedly stunning credentials and acting as though that makes everything you say about anything singing-related absolute, incontrovertible fact.

Unfortunately for you, good and bad technique is absolute, incontrovertible fact. If facts make you feel bad that's your problem.

My apologies. I missed the part where you became the highest authority on vocalization techniques known to man, the sole arbiter of what qualifies as good and bad singing. I'll know next time to come straight to you and ignore any other so-called "trained vocalists" who disagree with your almighty decrees.

Good. I'll leave you my card. See, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Well-met, good anon.

Please show me a trained vocalist who thinks Idina Menzel is any good, because I haven't met one yet. The general consensus among the other students in my choir is that her technique is terrible.

Guess the musical theatre students whose shows I did backstage work for and who never shut up about how much they love Idina Menzel don't count.

'Loving' does not equate to 'thinking someone is good or talented.' I love Katy Perry's songs and she couldn't sing her way out of a paper bag. I like them because they're catchy and fun, not because I think she has any sort of vocal talent whatsoever.

I'm just saying that there are trained vocalists out there who do believe she's a good singer, and that while your opinions on the matter are informed, that does not make them universal truths.

Re: da

"She has bad technique" is not an opinion, for the third time. It is fact. It is a universal truth. I'm sorry if you have to call verifiable facts "opinions" to make you feel better about yourself, but good and bad singing technique is as debatable as the boiling temperature of water. There is a right way and a wrong way to sing. The wrong way will not only sound like shit, but it will eventually ruin your fucking voice. And it's already happened with Idina Menzel, by the way. She can't reach the same notes she did in Wicked anymore because her crappy technique has cost her her higher range.

Here's an idea. How 'bout citing some sources on that? All I have to go on right now is your repeated assertion that you and every other trained musician in the world hates this woman. I Googled a bit myself, but I'm not sure what exact terms to search for or where the most reputable, objective reviews would be, so I'm going to need your help on that. Like, is there a music academia equivalent to Project Muse or JSTOR? 'Cause if there is, I could probably just log on to my university's research database and go from there.

lol I am a career vocalist and I love her voice. Her technique isn't 'objectively perfect' but that's what many people (those who hire her for example) find charming. She sings well enough to be paid for it and all I hear is jealousy tbqh.
