I know I'm dredging this up a couple of days after this conversation started, but I was awaiting for a credible source to bring up this rumor.

Donetsk is supposed to be part of modern-world Europe, even if it is trying to secede from Ukraine to go to Russia. They remember the war there. And yet they try and do something like this:

I don't believe for a second that this wasn't backed by someone in the new government.

I agree with this comment. I wouldn't say "hate", but reading the entire thread the other day did make me think new and unfavorable things about a people who I didn't really have an opinion about beforehand

Well, they claimed they had no part of it/the guy cited as the 'leader' doesn't feel he is/whatnot. They don't know who did it yet. It does sort of smack of Nazi Germany stuff, though. /Saying this as someone who has an entire side of family that are Russian Jews.

You're not wrong, but I suspect that you're trying to prove something that this does not prove, and it annoys me.

Because, yes, this happened, and it does show that there is prejudice and bigotry and anti-Semitism in society, which is something that we do know in a lot of places. But I don't think it even shows that there is some kind of governmental plan in place to persecute the Jews - if nothing else the fact that it was roundly rejected, denounced, and condemned by every political group, and that most of them tried to blame the other political groups - it doesn't necessarily mean that there's no anti-Semitism in the government, but at the very least far-right anti-Semitism is not politically mainstream to the extent that they could actually advocate this stuff. And I would be very skeptical about using this as evidence of some kind of broader claim about the world as a whole for that reason.

It's terrible that this has happened and it's obviously unaccceptable, and anti-Semitism clearly exists and is totally wrong. I'm just not sure what this news story really proves in regards to that.

Saw that the other day and was horrified. I'm glad it doesn't appear to be an actual movement though. If it was backed up it obviously wasn't backed up enough.
