I think it's a Northern Canadian thing referring to the time when the only way to get anyplace is via snowmobile. The isolation for three months makes sense then. As do the cabbages, since cabbage is a vegetable that's like super high in vitamins and keeps for a really long time.

So I think that OP's trying to say that they want to spend the lonely months where you can't get anywhere with Chris Hemsworth and that they'd give him the best of what supplies they have to offer.

At least that's what I could discern from my google fu.

What you're describing is "ice season," though. (Born and raised in Northern Ontario.) Where they have ice roads, etc. "Tar season" is pretty much the opposite of that, as tar is liquefied asphalt.

Agree on the cabbages suggesting a cold climate. I suggested a volcanic location below, due to the tar.

Yeah, it didn't make sense to me either. But I found a bunch of stuff referencing tar season in Manitoba on several snowmobiling websites. Maybe it has something to do with the tar sands and flooding making the roads impassable.

Not really sure.

I'm from Manitoba and I've never heard of that happening. I'm pretty sure we never had tar sands. Flooding, yes, tar sands no.

Also I've literally never heard of tar seasons. I assumed it was an Australian thing because Hemsworth is Australian...

I lived in Australia and there is no time when you're isolated for three months. The roads are fine even in the summer in the Outback.

Some areas in the tropical north are isolated for 1-3 months by the yearly floods in the wet season, but you can still travel by boat.

If it's an Australian thing, it'd be an inland one, as summers that get hot enough to melt tar just don't happen on the coast (at least in my coastal-living experience).

TL;DR I'm Aussie and I've never heard of "tar season", but I live on the coast.
