I don't know. On the one hand, the manga tried to make it Crona's decision, while bringing in the other characters to help Soul and Maka reach Crona (they *had* a way back, IIRC, but Crona didn't take it). I preferred that joint approach to the anime's one of having Maka...be very, very brave. As though no-one else was somehow good enough or had anything to do at all with the outcome. There was something very satisfying to see Crona reflect on everything that happened and what Crona alone could decide to do about it. Not the main cast insisting otherwise, and not Medusa manipulating her child. Just Crona. And that, for a character who's spent the entire series acting on the whim of other people, out of fear, or else pushing everyone/thing away, was awesome.

However, I think that Crona deserved a happy ending rather than sacrificing hirself for the world/Maka. I'd feel slightly better about it had ch113 not been as fairly terrible as it was.

I'm not about to deny that SE has always been daft and had its fanservice, but *of all the times to return to it*, good grief... The author could have made something of Crona's choice, and instead he waffles on about boobs for most of the chapter.

I'm not massively happy with the conclusion in either version, but between the two, I'm inclined to say I slightly prefer the manga for how it tried to bring the characters and themes together in a conclusion. It was never going to be clever, but I certainly enjoyed it at the time, in spite of my reservations.

But the other part of me agrees with you and wants to say, screw thematic relevance, Crona deserves better!

Maybe if these chapters had been any good I would have been convinced and moved by the tragic importance of Crona's choice, but since the danger of the Kishin didn't even feel like a big deal to me, I was just pissed that it had to end that way.
